The August membership meeting was held at the Mills River Restaurant in Mills River and the 37 attending seemed to enjoy the venue quite well. Al and Mary Francis Hutchinson were our guest and potential members. Al has been in the old cars business for over 30 years on the river in Asheville, NC and has about 30 vehicles in his collection.

Our September 15th meeting will be at Bay Breeze Restaurant on Hwy. 25 North in Hendersonville, NC.

Kin LaRowe gave a corrected membership report having us with 177 GSMR members and 79 LDC members totaling 256 for 2015. Kim also reminded us that since we are so close to October if you have a potential member have them wait until October to join since they will benefit for the remainder of 2015 and all of 2016 for the annual dues.

Jeanne Robertson reminded all that the club picnic will be Saturday October 24th , again at Harmon Field in Tryon. It is relatively centralized area for most club members. Starts at 11:00 and we’ll eat around 12:00. If you can come early and help setting up it is appreciated. There are sign-up sheets going around for you to bring side dish or salad or dessert so we have an idea of what we’ll need. The BBQ will again be from Mountain View in Columbus. More information next month as we get closer.

Bill Wearmouth is once again heading up Autorama this year mark your calendars for October 10th. We will have the prime Court House block again and the block below. Once again it conflicts with the Hershey show so if you are not going to Hershey please make a special effort to support our show. We had more cars last year than the previous one and hope for even more this year.

Kathie Nowakowski last month’s Lucky Dog gave us her points of view about life from the passenger seat in their first ’55 Thunderbird that Joe referred to in his talk last month about his long time interest in Fords. She covered from when he showed up with it in 1956 until it was sold in 1962 and then buying another one in 1984. Some of her points of interest were a little scary to say the least.

The Brass and Wheels tour to Clyde, NC and on to Maggie Valley, NC drew a crowd much to my pleasure. Our events had not been attended well so far this year but 20 members did the Brass and Wheels tour Saturday Aug. 22nd. If you failed to make it all I can say is you missed a great tour and collection of Brass and memorabilia plus free BBQ lunch. Dale has added yet another new car to his collection at the Museum in Maggie Valley. Dale just got the Cartercar in the museum on Thursday prior to our arrival Saturday. Mitchell Andrus had the pleasure of taking a spin with Dale in his Locomobile which he has owned twice now.

A discussion was held concerning a permanent meeting place rather than rotating each month. Some members questioned each month as to where the meeting was to be. Also the availability of places to accommodate us was dwindling. After all was said and done the vote was 28 in favor of and 8 nay votes. Our meetings beginning next year will be held at the Bay Breeze Restaurant in Hendersonville, NC the third Tuesday of each month same time 6:00 PM.

Finally we have a fact finding committee to look into the possibility of a Grand Nation Meet at the Biltmore. Thanks to David Watson, Kim LaRowe, Mike Perry, Tom Fury and Bob Delwiche for volunteering.

Remember you are invited to join the Donut Derlicks every Saturday morning for breakfast, 7:00 AM at Nancy Lynn’s Dinner in Mills River.
