Our May meeting at Bay Breeze had 46 attendees including 6 guests. The guests were also volunteers to help with serving lunches at our May 30th car show at BRCC.

Kim LaRowe gave a report on membership and the current roster had been sent to Hershey HQ.

Frank Costerisan our treasurer stated that we still have money in the bank and that he would have a current report for our June meeting.

Paula LaRowe, the lucky dog winner in April gave a brief report on the Metropolitan, mentioning her dad served our country in the Air Force. Tilley Jones won the lucky dog for May so I suspect we may hear about the Hemi being rebuilt in Dick’s Plymouth.

Lynn Nordt confirmed our Christmas part date of December 18th at the Cedars in Hendersonville. Be sure to mark your calendars.

Another important date to mark on the calendar is Friday, July 10,2015. It has been designated as Antique Collector Car Appreciation Day, so get the old car out as much as possible on July 10th.

Our meeting this month is June 16, 2015 at the Lonestar Steak House off Airport Rd. (near the airport) in Fletcher, NC at 6:00 PM. The left side of the parking lot (beside the restaurant) as you enter the parking lot will be blocked off for antique car parking only. Our cars will be right outside the windows in the room we will be meeting in. So get the old car out for the evening.

The South Carolina Region has organized a tour to Dean Hunter’s farm in Williamston, SC for both our clubs to enjoy June 20th. I hope we have several planning to attend since the SC Region has worked so hard to put this event together for us.

The club members in attendance voted to establish a fact finding committee about hosting the 2018 Grand National Meet at the Biltmore Estates. Now that our BRCC car show is behind us I will be asking for volunteers to assist me in this mission. If you know anyone at the Biltmore or would be interested in serving on this committee please contact me.

The remainder of the meeting consisted of discussions about our May 30th car show at BRCC.

WOW!! What a show it was too. The Dodge Bros. were surly looking down of us with smiles from ear to ear. Celebrating the Dodge Bros. 100th anniversary we had a 1920 Police car, 1923 Taxi (used in the filming of the Leatherheads), 1926 Touring and 1930 Touring cars for spectators to enjoy. Enjoy they did too, from the looks of the grass worn flat around them. The feature vehicles drew several (25-30) Mopar vehicles out to support our efforts. Speaking of support we had 15 clubs represented on the show field which speaks very highly of the support and cooperation of antique car clubs. The Hornet’s Nest Region once again honored us with the most club participation with 32 vehicles making their way to Hendersonville from Charlotte. Their members tell me they love coming to Hendersonville, needless to say we love having them come and support our event.

Last year, our first year attempting to attract trade vendors we had only 2 attend. Our second year produced 11 trade vendors all of which said they had a great day and looked forward to returning next year June 4, 2016. Mark your calendars.

The variety on the show field covered everything imaginable equipped with wheels, motorcycles, rough terrain, eighteen wheel tractor, pickups, hit-miss engine, tractors, street rods, modified, rat rods, original antiques and classics. Several owners posted For Sale signs in the event a spectator might be looking for their dream car. Total attendance this year was 226 about the same as last year. One thing we have learned, feeding the participants well pays dividends. Each registered vehicle received one FREE BBQ or Hot Dog lunch with trimmings and drink.

While spectators were enjoying the vehicles and the owners enjoying their lunch the Skills USA Chapter members were busy choosing the award winners, no easy task this year. Brian Johnson, automotive instructor at the college presented Skills USA member and GSMR student member Ethan King with a Craftsman two tier tool box complete with tools. Making this possible was previous GSMR members Jim & Clair Graves who donated the tools. Brian also presented Skills USA member and GSMR student member Sam Burchard with his Skills USA Award finishing 3rd in State competition in Greensboro, NC in early April. Upon completion of these presentations Brian announced the top 10 winners and specialty award winners each receiving unique trophies. The Skills USA members decided on used pistons as their trophies and everyone receiving them was quite pleased.

We did have a first this year it being a Nascar Camping World Series Race Truck driven by Collin Robinson of Marshall, NC. Collin I understand is seeking sponsors for the 2016 race season so if you know of anyone who would be interested in national advertising and sponsoring Collin give him a call 828-206-4905 or collinjeffery15@gmail.com

As of this publication the accounting is not complete on how much was raised for the Skill USA Chapter at BRCC. Brian says it should be available for announcement at our June meeting.

The calendar for June and July has been included in this edition. Please take note and plan to support our clubs local and National activities.

Happy motoring until we meet again.
