4-28-2015 The High Beam

Our meeting at Mike’s on Main in Hendersonville special since it was Ladies Night. The ladies always come up with a fun program making us laugh at ourselves and each other. Can you imagine drawing your vehicle and expecting someone to guess what it is let a lone who the owner. Well one thing for sure our club is seriously short on artists.

The 44 members attending seemed to enjoy the program immensely.

Paula LaRowe won the lucky dog drawing. A special 50-50 drawing was held raising $52.00 to be split with the winner and the remainder donated to the Blue Bucket Campaign Patty Adamic owner of Mike’s on Main holds to support the Autism Classes in Henderson County. Dan Hensley was the winner and he graciously donated his portion to the campaign also. Members like Dan is what makes our club special.

Congratulations to all winners at the Southeastern Spring Meet in Charlotte, NC all members participating won the award they were showing for. Great job!

As mentioned in my earlier email our Saturday tour began a little damp but the clouds and rain dissipated before we completed our inside visit to Barry Rudis garage/collection. Photos were circulated earlier but I will attach a couple so to identify the attendees. Photo 0603 standing left to right is Mike Perry, Eddie Eich, Keith Fisher and Carl Kaupa. Kneeling is Hulon and Barry Rudis and Kim LaRowe was the cameraman. Photo 0605 has Kim in it standing on the right and Mike Perry was the cameraman. Eddie and Carl are friends of Barry and Kim and joined us on the tour. In fact if the clouds and sun hadn’t come out they made our day much brighter and kept us laughing. You could say they are like Laurel and Hardy but don’t ask me which is which. Hopefully both will join our club.

Leaving Barry’s our next stop was at R&P Cycle Supply owners Ronnie & Pete Gray greeted us along with Ronnie’s sons and Grandson making this a four generation business. I cannot attempt to describe what we saw other than any and everything you can imagine. Barry found/purchased a 68 Mustang GT hubcaps and a 36 Ford Radiator Cap ornament (greyhound). I found a Budweiser clock with the Clydesdale team pulling the wagon with Dalmation dogs. I came home, told Linda about the clock and she convinced me I should have bought it so Monday morning I was back over there making the purchase. Linda loves it.

To our surprise Ronnie convinced Terry Mcadoo the Gun Shop owner to open us for us as well. Terry owns and operates Checkpoint Armory in the back of R&P Cycle Supply. I have attached a couple photos identifying all attendees. Photo 0610 is the four generations of Gray’s. Standing Left to Right is Pete, Ronnie, Jesse and driving the Gator is Mason with Beemer leading the way. Photo 0612 Left to Right is Beemer standing guard, Terry Mcadoo, Cody Gray, Carl Kaupa, Mike Perry, Keith Fisher, Kim LaRowe, Jesse & Mason Gray, Pete Gray, Eddie Eich and Hulon. After photos were taken everyone was ready for lunch so we traveled the back roads to Nancy Lynn’s Restaurant in Mills River where Richard Marlowe joined us for lunch. Only Laurel & Hardy, oh I mean Eddie and Carl took advantage of the homemade ice cream at Mills River Creamery. The rest of us returned home for grass mowing and honey do’s.

It was a great day for enjoying the hobby and fellowship.

May is full off opportunities for you to enjoy the hobby starting May 2nd at Hennie Jacobs benefit for Meals on Wheels in Greenville, SC. Then May 9th is a benefit car show in Dana, NC raising funds to rebuild their community center ball fields and grounds. For the past two years they have asked us to judge their event for them so I need your help May 9th to judge. Bring your vehicle and support their efforts.

Our May 19th meeting will be at Bay Breeze in Hendersonville at 6:00 PM. Since May is going to be a busy month preparing for the BRCC Benefit Car Show I have not scheduled a monthly outing. I have attached the May and June schedule for your review. Please note the joint tour with the South Carolina Region to Dean Hunter’s collection in Williamston, SC June 20th.
