March 31, 2015

For the fourth time this year mother- nature tried her best to cancel another GSMR event. Can you believe snow again on Saturday morning of our junk yard tour. Fortunately four GSMR members took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship with six other LDC/GSMR members at Vick’s Classic Used Parts in Chesnee, SC. I believe I was the only one on a scavenger hunt and found several hard to find tri-five original water pump and fuel pump cores. Two and a half hours of walking through rows of memorable vehicles and sharing stories about many of them we were ready for lunch. Photo attached.

Owner David Walker of Bantum Chef greeted at lunch with stories of his Studebaker collection and other unique vehicles including his most recent purchase a 1958 Cadillac. A twin to the one he and his wife of 50 years dated in. David says their 50th anniversary ride in the Cadillac brought back many memories. After lunch we were on the road again to Tim Hudson Used Auto Parts with a pit stop at Bennett’s Auto Museum in Forest City, NC. Our new members who had never been to the museum really enjoyed the stop there where we met up with six more LDC/GSMR members. Everyone was reminded that all GSMR/LDC members enjoy FREE admission to the museum any time. If you are in the area with the family the Bennett brothers always welcome your visit.

Although we have visited Tim Hudson place a few times it is always great to stop in and see what he has added and this time we saw a new arrangement of vehicles many that would make great restoration projects. Another two and half hours of walking and sharing experiences we were off to visit Tim’s garage and view his collection. As the sun was lowering and the wind and cool air began setting in we began our journey back home. With all the room in the Cadillac one might think that after a day of junk yarding someone would doze off but not so. The ride back up the mountain was just as enjoyable as the trip down in the AM. We wished you could have joined us for a fun filled day enjoying the hobby we love.

Finally, after two snows and one day of ice in February cancelling our birthday bash we were able to celebrate it at our March meeting. What a great turn out too, 64 members and guests enjoyed the photos of our history prepared by Chip Boyd and of course cake and ice cream. You can’t have a birthday party without prizes and several members had the right answers to some club history trivia questions.

Yvonne Jacobs, January’s lucky dog winner shared some of her experiences dating now husband Hennie and the many cars they have owned both in their homeland South Africa and the United States. This month’s winner was Tom Furey so our April meeting will include experiences and comments from Tom.

Carson Calton, sponsor, owner and operator of City Tire Service spoke to us about his wheel straightening capabilities and other services offered at City Tire Service. When the need arises for any services offered by City Tire please patronize our sponsors and thank them for their continued support. Photo attached.

Our April meeting will be at Mike’s on Main Street Hendersonville, NC at 6:00 PM down stairs on main floor. This is ladies night and the program will be presented by several of our leading ladies. You won’t want to miss this meeting because every meeting the ladies have presented has been a lot of fun. I have attached our schedule of events for April and May however some not yet confirmed but will be soon. However we are confirmed to visit Stan Duckers garage on April 25th. You won’t want to miss this opportunity. Our May schedule is full of opportunities to dust off your pride and joy and share it with the admiring public. Please review our schedule, hopefully you will see something that looks interesting enough for your participation.

Everyone loves ICE CREAM so let’s have ice cream Sunday April 5th, 2:00 PM at the Soda Fountain at Mike’s on Main Street Hendersonville. Patty Adamic, owner, kicks off her Autism Awareness Blue Bucket campaign April 1st so let’s help her get a head start by get the old cars out on Main Street in front of the restaurant. Oh, please cross your finger too in hopes it don’t SNOW.

I hope to see you on the road soon.
